Balázs Cserta

Balázs is one of the most sought-after session musicians in Hungary. He appears in pop, jazz, contemporary and authentic folk music formations, often as a soloist. He contributed to countless theatre program music and album recordings, playing almost every wind instrument.

He began studying the clarinet, after which he picked up the saxophone and was mentored by Ferenc Muck. Balázs absolved his jazz saxophone degree at the Franz Liszt University of Music as a student of Mihály Borbély and István Elek, after which he acquires a degree in folk music under the mentoration of Attila Csávás. He makes great use of his versatility in MAO as well by using every possible register of the saxophone as well as ethnic instruments. He performs in many different Hungarian formations besides the Modern Art Orchestra.

Balázs is also an educator. He is giving lessons in the László Hermann Gymnasium for Music in Székesfehérvár and in the Folk Department of Franz Liszt Academy of Music.

He writes, records, arranges and directs music for different types of theatrical projects.

Balázs was awarded the Artisjus Prize in 2011 for his accomplishments in traditional folk music. His family was awarded the Pro Cultura Albae Regiae Prize for their significant contribution to the cultural life of Székesfehérvár.
