Based at the Budapest Music Center, Hungary’s Modern Art Orchestra is a unique species of contemporary music workshop: each of its members can play classical, jazz, or ethnic music, allowing the band to traverse genres with apparently effortless fluidity. Founded by trumpeter/composer Kornél Fekete-Kovács in 2005, MAO has toured extensively, and undertaken countless successful projects with leading musicians ranging from Bob Mintzer, Dave Liebman and Wallace Roney to Rhoda Scott, Mezzoforte, New York Voices and the Harlem Gospel Choir. As Mintzer remarked: “To my ears this is the music of the future, where different worlds collide and create something quite fresh and adventurous.”
