Fölszállott a Páva – a Tribure to Zoltán Kodály

Modern Art Orchestra features its new concert program titled “Fölszállott a Páva – a Tribute to Zoltán Kodály”. The Ensemble dedicates the second part of his series that salutes the great Hungarian composers to Zoltán Kodály. The first concert of this series was MAO plays Bartók 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs, that’s premiere performance won the Artisjus Award for best jazz performances in 2018. The repertoire was selected by Kornél Fekete-Kovács, the art director of the Orchestra from Kodály-pieces and from the tunes composed particularly for this occasion by the members of MAO. The concert sketches the whole ouvreau of Kodály from the early impressionist compositions to the choir-works that process folk songs. The original Kodály-pieces are sung by the choir that is invited to the actual concert. The instrumental compositions are performed by MAO. Kriszta Pocsai, one of the most talented Hungarian jazz singers is also featured as solo vocalist in the concert.

Kornél Fekete-Kovács and his fellow musicians – János Ávéd, Gábor Subicz, Kristóf Bacsó and Gábor Cseke – have been bringing with them the love of choir singing and folk music since their childhood. While creating their interpretations the composers leaned back to the folk songs collected by Zoltán Kodály to salute his compository and folk collector’s work.

The choir and the 20 musicians of MAO stand together on stage showing the past and the present, the choir compositions of Zoltán Kodály and the pieces of the contemporary composers. The premiere of the concert program took place at Pesti Vigadó with the cooperation of the Hungarian National Choir on the 3rd of February 2022.
