RUBATO from MAO PLAYS BÉLA BARTÓK: 15 HUNGARIAN PEASANT SONGS (FOUR OLD TUNES) arr. by JÁNOS ÁVÉD

The first movement is originally the opening composition of the 2018 album MAO PLAYS BÉLA BARTÓK: 15 HUNGARIAN PEASANT SONGS. Arranged by saxophone soloist and composer János Ávéd.

This album and concert program is the first of Modern Art Orchestra’s series saluting great Hungarian musicians. Fifteen Hungarian Peasant Songs is a composition of Béla Bartók based on short folk melodies, originally arranged for piano. These movements are transcripted into big band pieces by the Modern Art Orchestra’s creative composers: Kristóf Bacsó, János Ávéd, Gábor Subicz and Kornél Fekete-Kovács. The short songs are transcripted conserving and respecting their original form. The pieces are connected by the composer’s fresh compositions and the improvisation of the featured soloists: Veronika Harcsa – vocal, David Liebman – saxophone, Mihály Dresch – fuhun, László Gőz – bass trumpet, Miklós Lukács – cymbalo
